Water heater repair in Saugus & the North Shore

No hot water, water at the tank, or a pilot that will not stay lit. The first step is finding out what failed.

Shane investigates no-hot-water and leak problems and tells you whether the heater is worth repairing or should be replaced. A tank with one failed part can often be repaired. A tank that leaks from the tank itself cannot.

What we handle

No hot water

On a gas heater that can be a pilot that is out, a failed thermocouple or a control problem. On an electric heater it can be a failed element or thermostat. A diagnosis finds out which.

Water at the base of the tank

Water can come from a fitting, a drain valve, the relief valve or the tank itself. Fittings and valves can usually be repaired. A leaking tank body means the heater has failed.

Rusty water, or hot water that runs out fast

This can mean sediment, a failed part or a tank near the end of its life. Send a photo of the heater and its data label so the answer starts from the right equipment.

The heater's own shut-off will not close

On a Revere job the valve on the heater did not work, so the water to the whole house had to be shut off. If yours will not shut, turn off the water to the house and call.

Repair or replace

A sound tank with one failed part is worth repairing. An older tank that is leaking or rusted through is a replacement. Shane tells you which it is.

Questions homeowners ask about water heater repair

Can a leaking water heater be repaired?

It depends where the water comes from. A leak at a fitting, a drain valve or the relief valve is often fixable. Water coming through the tank body means the tank has failed and the answer is a replacement. Shut the water off to the heater, or to the house if the heater's valve will not close, and call.

What usually causes no hot water on a gas water heater?

  • A pilot that is out or will not stay lit.
  • A thermocouple or flame sensor that has failed.
  • A control or gas valve problem.
  • Sediment, or a tank near the end of its life.

A diagnosis tells which one it is. Say the model, and what the heater is doing, when you request service.

Is it an emergency?

Water on the basement floor or no hot water in cold weather usually is. Call, and see the emergency page.

For a faster quote. Send with your request: a photo of the water heater and its data label, whether it runs on gas or electric, where it is in the house, and what it is doing (leaking, no hot water, pilot out).
